
I’m back with Part 2 of my Breaking Free from Forever Chemicals series, where we’re building a root-cause path toward clearing PFAS from the body. In this post, we’ll focus on the everyday dietary tools—fiber, mineral-rich whole foods, and gut-loving bacteria—that support your body’s natural detox systems.
1. Why Fiber Isn’t Just a Digestive Trick—It’s a PFAS Magnet
Gel-forming fibers, like beta-glucan (found in oats, barley, rye) and psyllium, act like molecular vacuums in your gut. These fibers bind bile acids—and PFAS, because of their structural similarity—forming a sticky gel that helps escort these toxins out in your stool instead of letting them recirculate. That disruption of enterohepatic (liver-gut) recycling is what makes the difference.
In a controlled pilot study, 72 men consumed 1 gram of oat beta-glucan before each meal for four weeks. The result? An 8% drop in PFOA and PFOS levels—two of the most notorious PFAS forms—compared to a rice placebo.
Similar findings emerged in related animal studies—especially in mice—reinforcing the strategy’s promise.

While human trials are pending, this suggests a future where probiotic strategies augment dietary support to enhance clearing of PFAS. Think of food, fiber, and flora as a detox trifecta.
